Wasim Akram batting World Record: Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram made a record while batting in the year 1996 which is unbroken till date. He scored an unbeaten 257 runs at number 8 in the Test against Zimbabwe at Sheikhpura. This inning was played with 12 sixes, no other batsman could hit this number. The best test score of India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar is also less than Akram.

Wasim Akram has seen many great days in his illustrious career, but 20 October 1996 is special for him. This day witnessed one of the most memorable innings played by a lower order batsman. Akram has never been weak with the bat, but he came into crisis on a day when Pakistan were down to 183 for six, and he scored a mammoth 257 at Sheikhpura.

Why is it difficult to break Wasim Akram’s record?

Wasim Akram’s innings played against Zimbabwe is a world record and it is almost impossible to break it. This innings became the record for the most runs scored by a number 8 batsman in Test. Earlier this record was 209 runs, which was made by his own countryman Imtiaz Ahmed against New Zealand in 1955. Akram’s innings included 12 sixes, which became the record for most sixes in a Test innings. Earlier, Wally Hammond had hit 10 sixes in his innings of 336 runs in Auckland. Apart from this, he also hit 22 fours and made a partnership of 323 runs with Saqlain Mushtaq.

In the first innings of the match, Zimbabwe scored 375 runs, in which Paul Strang and Grant Flower scored centuries. But Wasim Akram’s batting dashed Zimbabwe’s hopes. Pakistan took a lead of 178 runs, after which the result of the match could only be a draw and that is what happened. Zimbabwe scored 241/7 runs in the second innings and drew the match after playing 100 overs. Tired after his historic innings, Akram bowled only 5 overs in the second innings.

Even Sachin could not reach the score

Wasim Akram scored an unbeaten 257 runs in the innings he played in the test match. The amazing thing is that even the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar could never reach this score in Test cricket. Master Blaster played 200 test matches in his career and his best score was 248 runs not out. Former captain Sourav Ganguly also has the highest score of 239 runs in a test match.
