By cultivating lemongrass, you can earn a profit of about Rs 4 lakh in a year from just one hectare.

No need of fertilizer and no fear of animals
There is no need of fertilizer in lemon grass cultivation nor is there any fear of wild animals destroying the crop, hence this crop is proving to be a profitable deal. Once the crop is sown, it continues continuously for five-six years.

Lemon grass cultivation process
The best time to plant lemon grass is between February to July. After planting once, it is harvested six to seven times. Harvesting takes place three to four times in a year. Oil is extracted from lemon grass. About 3 to 5 liters of oil comes out from one hectare of land in a year. Its selling rate is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. Lemon grass is first harvested 3 to 5 months after planting. Is the lemon grass ready or not? To find out, break it and smell it. If you smell a strong smell of lemon, then understand that it is ready. Harvest it 5 to 8 inches above the ground. In the second harvest, 1.5 liters to 2 liters of oil is obtained per bag. Its production capacity increases for three years. The best time to prepare nursery beds for lemongrass is the month of March-April.

Know, how much will be the earning?
If you cultivate one hectare of lemon grass, it will cost you Rs 20,000 to 40,000 initially. Once the crop is planted, harvesting can be done 3 to 4 times in a year. Lemon grass is crushed like mentha and khus. About 100 to 150 liters of oil is obtained after 3 to 4 harvesting. If 5 liters of oil is released from one ton, then approximately 325 liters of oil will be released from one hectare in a year. The price of oil per liter is around Rs 1200-1500 per liter i.e. one can easily earn Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
