However, Rishabh Pant-Shreyas Iyer missed out on the Indian Premier League (IPL) final for the second time in a row after losing both matches in the play-offs. Delhi lost to Shakib Al Hasan’s Kolkata Knight Riders by 3 wickets in a highly drama-filled match in the second qualifier of the tournament on Wednesday night. Although Kolkata won the match with only 1 ball and 3 wickets in hand, according to Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting, this is the first time in this season that his disciples did not care about any team.

He also thinks that the first power play of the two teams has made the fate of the match. Delhi, who lost the toss and batted first, lost 1 wicket in their first powerplay and scored 38 runs, while Kolkata scored 51 runs without a wicket. After the match loss, Ponting was saying, ‘To be honest, looking back, we didn’t care about our opponents in this one match in the whole tournament. At least I think so.’

Delhi fought hard towards the end despite only 135 runs on the scoreboard against Kolkata. At one time, it seemed that the team was going to win the lost match. But despite needing 6 runs off the last 2 balls, Rahul Tripathi hit a six to give Kolkata the ticket to the final. Ponting never imagined that a great season would end like this. He is quite disappointed not to be able to use even one of the two qualifiers.

KKR or Chennai Super Kings in the final? Who is the favorite? Ponting says it is difficult to say. On the one hand, Chennai, who played well in the tournament, on the other hand, KKR made a dream comeback in the second phase in the UAE. No one will leave an inch of land to anyone. Chennai are three-time champions. KKR twice. Out of which the trophy came to Kolkata once after defeating Dhoni’s team in the final.

However, Ricky Ponting has admitted that the way Kolkata Knight Riders have turned around in the second phase of the IPL is nothing short of amazing. Note that in 2014, KKR reached the final by winning 8 matches in a row.
