India crosses 2 crore units in electric two-wheeler sales in 2025. Hero MotoCorp remained the leader, TVS recorded the fastest growth. Exports increased by 24.2 percent, contribution of urban markets was important.

New Delhi. The craze for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly across the world. India is also not untouched by this. India is continuously presenting excellent figures in the electric two-wheeler segment. Something similar was seen in 2025 also. After many sluggish years the market crossed the 2 crore sales mark. According to SIAM data, total domestic sales stood at more than 2 crore units, which is 5 percent more than the same period last year.

2018 record still stands
However, despite this growth, the industry is still below its historic high of 21 million units achieved in 2018. Domestic demand remained strong, but overseas markets played a more important role in determining this year’s results. Exports of two-wheelers reached an all-time high of 49.4 lakh units with a tremendous growth of 24.2 percent.

Why did sales volume increase?
The main reasons for this volume growth were the resurgent demand in African markets, continued purchases from South Asia and improving motorcycle consumption globally. Hero MotoCorp maintained its leadership by delivering 57.5 lakh units in the recently concluded calendar year. However, growth for the brand was only 2 percent.

TVS’s growth is fastest
TVS Motor Company recorded the fastest growth among major companies, with volumes growing by 15.7 percent to 39.8 lakh units. A change was seen in the pattern of consumer demand in 2025. Rural markets remained stable, but cities contributed the largest share to core growth. Scooter sales, in particular, overtook motorcycles in urban areas, benefiting from rising incomes and better financing options.

Impact of GST 2.0
Policy measures like GST 2.0 tax cuts, income tax relief and multiple reductions in repo rates made it easier to buy vehicles across all segments. Along with these reasons, the auspicious festival season, especially in metros, strengthened retail demand in the second half of the year. Many new launches can be seen in all segments in 2026. With growing demand for adventure motorcycles and entry-level segments in India, this momentum could form the basis of stable retail figures throughout the year. There is the highest ever emphasis on exports in the passenger vehicle and two-wheeler industries and this will lead to the launch of more products of global standards locally.
