New Delhi. Bangladesh cricket was already in the headlines due to allegations against India regarding the T20 World Cup venue controversy, but now a big question has been raised on the credibility of its domestic cricket. A case has come to light in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2025-26), which has put the entire tournament in the dock. After the defeat of Sylhet Titans in the second qualifier, serious allegations of match fixing have been made, which has created a stir in the cricket world.

In the second qualifier match played on January 21, Rajshahi Warriors defeated Sylhet Titans by 12 runs to book the ticket to the finals, but after this close defeat, a former official of Sylhet Titans has pushed the entire BPL into controversy by accusing it of match fixing.

    BPL tainted with match fixing

Sylhet Titans team advisor Faheem Al Choudhary made a shocking claim after the team’s exit from BPL 2025-26. After the defeat, an emotional Faheem resigned from his post in front of the media. Shortly after his resignation, he revealed on social media that a member of the team was involved in match fixing.

Sensational revelation of Faheem Al Choudhary

Faheem Al Choudhary said that today’s match was tainted. I have received reliable information that a player involved in this match sold himself. He lied to us and betrayed Sylhet Titans. He played with the sentiments of the people of Sylhet. There was no need for him to do this. If he needed money he could have told me, we could have made arrangements. This truth has shaken me from within. This statement of Faheem has raised questions on the fairness of not only Sylhet Titans but the entire BPL.

How Sylhet lost after coming close to victory

In the second qualifier match, Rajshahi Warriors, batting first, scored 165 runs in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Sylhet Titans had a great start, the team had scored 106 runs for 4 wickets in 13 overs and needed only 60 runs in 42 balls to win. This target could have been completely achieved in T20 cricket, but from here the course of the match suddenly changed. Between 16.3 overs and 17.3 overs, Sylhet Titans lost three important wickets and the entire batting faltered and ultimately the team lost the match by 12 runs.

The match-fixing allegations leveled after this defeat have dealt a deep blow to the credibility of BPL. Now it remains to be seen what action Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) takes in this matter and whether these allegations are investigated impartially or not.
