Kept looking at Hero, TVS, Ola! Chetak becomes India’s number 1 scooter

New Delhi. Bajaj Auto’s Chetak electric scooter has secured the top spot in the electric two-wheeler segment with sales of 31,168 units in October 2025. The brand’s sales were previously directly impacted by supply chain issues, which had earlier pushed the brand down in the rankings, and represents a tremendous improvement for Bajaj in the fast-growing EV market. After slipping down in the list of bestselling scooters, the company launched Chetak in October 2025, leaving behind brands like Vida, Ola, TVS. Even Activa Electric could not present a challenge for it.

Number 1 Chetak in October
Chetak beat TVS Motors by 1,684 units to take the number one spot in October. This represents a year-on-year growth of 10 percent from October 2024 and gives Bajaj a 21.9 percent market share in the electric two-wheeler segment.

Problems in supply chain
Bajaj faced significant challenges during August when supply chain problems forced it to halt or reduce production. There was a sharp decline in Chetak sales, taking it to fifth position with only 10,635 units. However, the company resumed full-scale production by the end of August and has since been clearing its collective booking backlog.

demand for chetak
The October sales figure marks Chetak’s strongest performance this year, surpassing the previous figure of nearly 35,000 units achieved in March 2025. The rapid return to full capacity reflects the demand for Chetak and its strong market presence. Demand for electric scooters remains strong, and Bajaj is now increasing production to meet the growing orders.

Bajaj Chetak: 30 Line and 35 Line
Bajaj currently sells Chetak in two series: 30 Line and 35 Line. The 35 Series uses a 3.5 kWh battery pack that is placed under the floor, providing more storage space under the seat. This configuration offers an approved range of 153 km on a single charge. The battery can be charged from zero to 80 percent in three to 3.5 hours using a standard charger.

Three variants in Chetak 35 series
All three variants are powered by a 4 kW electric motor that propels the scooter to a top speed of 73 kmph. The 3501 and 3502 variants have a 3.5 kWh battery that offers a range of 153 km, while the 3503 offers a range of 151 km. Features vary across variants, with the top-spec model including a TFT touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and keyless access.

price
The 30 Series includes the recently launched Chetak 3001, which is priced at Rs 99,990 (ex-showroom). This entry-level model uses a 3.0 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 127 km and a top speed of 63 kmph. This includes a digital console, hill hold assist and reverse light, establishing it as an affordable entry point into the Chetak range.

Bajaj is rapidly expanding its dealership network for Chetak, from around 100 dealerships to over 500 by mid-2025. This expanded reach has been instrumental in challenging competitors and improving access for customers across the country. The strong network offers better sales and service support, while some competitors face service-related challenges.

The company is preparing a new model to further strengthen its position in the electric two-wheeler segment. A next-generation Chetak has been spotted testing, which suggests that Bajaj is developing an advanced platform. While details are still scant, the new model is expected to feature design updates while maintaining the classic Chetak silhouette. The market launch is expected in early 2026.
