New Delhi. We know the stories of Tata, Ambani, Birla, but giving up the allure of jobs in multinational companies, the idea of teaching only online took the valuation of a Rs 2 lakh company to around Rs 90 thousand crores. This is the story of India’s second largest startup online learning app Byju’s and its founder Byju Raveendran. While talking to News18, he told how the idea of bringing education on online platform achieved such huge success. Not only this, during the Corona period, when all schools, coaching and colleges are closed, then how is Byju’s App teaching the students…
Know the story of Byjus from Ravindran in his own words…
“My friends were preparing for competitive exams. When they asked me to study, I guided them. They liked my method and cracked the exam. On their request, we tried the same idea in a workshop for 100 students. Later, we also conducted a session for 20,000 students simultaneously in the stadium. During this, I found that there was a huge difference in the way students learned. They were cramming only because of the fear of exams. So, We came up with the idea of developing their love for learning through the use of technology. Keeping this in mind, we launched Byju’s App in August 2015. Today we have 4 crore subscribers out of which 28 lakh are paid subscribers.
Now let me tell you about my team. My students helped me expand my classes when we were in our initial stages. These students later formed the core team of the company and this team is now running all the important functions of the company from content development, sales and marketing.. Byju’s team has only one addiction, and that is to inculcate the habit of learning in our students. This passion can be seen from top to bottom in the company.
I have become an engineer by profession, an entrepreneur by accident and a teacher by choice. I never planned to start my work as a business. I simply pursued my passion and invested my strength to make it happen. Later it became a business. No business can be run on the passion of making money, rather the passion of changing the society is more important. i think that The real fun here is not in creating a billion dollar company, but in creating a billion thinkers and learners.
By the way, I want to tell you that I did not do any business. That’s why I and my team learn by working. We learned the art from business model to its expansion and raising funds. Anyway, we do the work of teaching, then we also learn and do entrepreneurship.
Nowadays I don’t get as much time to teach as before, but I am happy that many of my students are doing better than me today. We have teachers who are better than me today. Teaching is one of the most creative and powerful jobs. Teachers have a lifelong impact on children, from helping shape their minds to giving them a launch pad for their ideas and imaginations.
I want to tell my young colleagues that when you do what you love and are passionate about, then you become self-motivated. One must have the qualities to think big, aspire high, plan and implement quickly. If you’re passionate about your idea, work hard from the beginning.”
