About 50 percent of the bike has been made from discarded metal parts and reused components. The three students have invested about Rs 1.8 lakh in this project.

New Delhi. In a brilliant display of innovation and engineering, three mechanical engineering students from Surat have designed an AI-powered electric superbike named ‘Garuda’, made mostly from scrap and recycled parts. As India’s first AI integrated superbike, this prototype has grabbed a lot of headlines on social media due to its futuristic design and technology. Shivam Maurya, Gurpreet Arora and Ganesh Patil of Bhagwan Mahavir University have together designed Garuda, which is an excellent combination of Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability and Practical Engineering. About 50 percent of the bike is made from discarded metal parts and reused components. All three have invested about Rs 1.8 lakh in this project.

At the heart of Garuda is a Raspberry Pi module, which is its central processing unit. This tiny computer powers the bike’s smart features, allowing it to respond to voice commands, automatically control speed and even come to a complete stop without manual braking. Connected to Wi-Fi, this system can also understand commands like ‘slow down’ or ‘stop at this distance’.
AI Assisted Collision Avoidance System

AI assisted collision avoidance system is also provided in Garuda for the safety of the rider. Two high-range sensors installed on the bike keep scanning the road continuously. If any vehicle comes within a radius of 12 feet, the bike automatically reduces the speed and if there is any obstacle within three feet, the Garuda stops completely. The system also works on voice commands like ‘stop at three feet’, which gives a glimpse of autonomous two-wheeler safety technology.

Another specialty of this electric bike is that hubless wheels have been used in it, which makes it different from other two-wheelers present in the market. These wheels have been joined by welding on a frame made of rectangular pipes. The prototype also has many premium features, such as a touchscreen dashboard with GPS navigation, phone connectivity and music playback. There are cameras installed at the front and rear, which provide live video feed on the display, which improves visibility in urban traffic. Wireless mobile charging pad is also provided in it.

220 km range
Once fully charged, the Garuda, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery, can travel up to 220 kilometers in Eco mode and 160 kilometers in Sport mode. It takes about two hours to charge completely. Even though this is an experimental project, it reflects both technical depth and creativity. Garuda’s lead developer Shivam Maurya, who also runs a YouTube channel on DIY engineering, showcased the team’s project on online platforms, which gave it immense popularity. He has also shared the entire process of development of this electric vehicle and the video of testing on public road.
