Changes in OnePlus, brand safe in India, global decline continues
A recent report regarding smartphone brand OnePlus has created a stir in the tech industry. According to a latest report by Android Headlines, internal changes are going on at a large level in OnePlus and the brand seems to be gradually losing its separate identity and merging deeply with Oppo. However, the report makes it clear that OnePlus is not going to shut down suddenly, rather its future may gradually weaken like brands like BlackBerry, Nokia or LG.
In the report, special emphasis has been laid on the recent sales figures of OnePlus. In the year 2024, there was a decline of more than 20% in the global shipment of OnePlus. While earlier the company used to sell around 17 million smartphones, this figure has come down to 13-14 million units.
The market share of OnePlus in India has also fallen from 6.1 percent to 3.9 percent. The situation was even worse in China, where its share declined from 2 percent to 1.6 percent. In contrast, Oppo’s sales have increased by 2.8 percent.
According to the report, now many important decisions of OnePlus like product strategy, research and development and marketing are being taken under Oppo. Due to this, the independent identity of OnePlus seems to be weakening. Along with this, the company’s presence in many countries has also reduced compared to before.
However, it is a matter of relief for Indian users that OnePlus is not going anywhere from India. India is OnePlus’s biggest market and more than half of the company’s annual sales come from here.
Recently OnePlus has launched new products like OnePlus 15R and Pad Go 2 in India and has also run big marketing campaigns. Brand endorsements are also continuing with celebrities like cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana.
The most important question is what effect it will have on existing OnePlus users. At present there is no major cause for concern. Warranty, service and software updates of OnePlus smartphones will continue. New models are also in development, which clearly shows that the brand is not going away completely. Overall, changes are definitely happening in OnePlus, but for the time being the situation seems safe for users in India.
OnePlus made it clear…
Amidst all these claims, OnePlus India has clarified in a statement given to Android Authority that the company’s operations are continuing normally in India. The company has not officially confirmed any brand shutdown or large-scale wind-down.
