Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli and Jasprit BumrahNew Delhi: BCCI is now going to abolish the A Plus category introduced in 2018 to simplify the central contracts of players. According to the current policy, A+ category cricketers get Rs 7 crore annually, A category get Rs 5 crore, B category get Rs 3 crore and C category get Rs 1 crore.
Now players will be kept only in A, B and C categories. BCCI is going to end the A+ category introduced in 2018 by simplifying the central contracts of players. Last time only four players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were in the A+ category. Of these, only Bumrah plays in all three formats. Kohli and Rohit play only ODI while Jadeja plays Test and ODI.
This is being done to simplify the contract structure. There are very few players who play in all formats. Players like Bumrah, who is one of the few players to play in all formats, will be kept in the top category and there will be no cut in his salary.
The central contract will be approved in the next meeting of the apex council. However, a board official told PTI that there will be no cut in the salary of a player like Bumrah, who has led the pace attack in all three formats, even if he has been out of some matches due to workload management.
India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is certain to remain in A category. Since Rohit and Virat play the same format, they will be in B category. Right now nothing can be said about how much money Rohit-Virat will get if they are kept in B category? According to sources, now ‘A’ category players can be given Rs 7 crore annually.
