Dispute between Bangladesh Cricket Board and BCCINew Delhi: In view of the T20 World Cup, an emergency meeting of the Sports Advisor of Bangladesh Government and national cricketers has been called today. Now that it has been decided that the International Cricket Council will not shift Bangladesh’s matches in the T-20 World Cup out of India, the uneasiness of BCB has increased. In view of this, Asif Nazrul, Sports Advisor to the Bangladesh Government, will hold a meeting with the cricketers in a hotel at 3 pm today and explain to them his stand regarding the team’s participation in the World Cup. You must be aware that the World Cup is to be played jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7.
Decision was to come on 21st, Bangladesh got today’s extension
Bangladesh Cricket Board is continuously arguing that its players are not safe in India, hence its matches in the T20 World Cup should be shifted to Sri Lanka or any third place. The ICC has consistently rejected that demand. The decision in this matter was to come on January 21, but Bangladesh has been given one more day to think. If Bangladesh’s stubborn attitude continues then their team will be replaced by Scotland in the tournament. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Bangladeshi cricketers are expected to discuss measures to end the impasse as well as convey their views to the government.
BCB President Aminul Islam said that he is expecting a miracle from ICC. He also said that the security system for cricketers in India is not safe. he adds:
I am expecting a miracle from ICC. Who doesn’t want to play in the World Cup? Bangladesh players want to play the World Cup. The Bangladesh government wants Bangladesh to play the World Cup, but we do not think India is safe for our players. Any government, while taking decisions, takes into account not only the players but everyone.
14 out of 16 countries against Bangladesh
The ICC held a board meeting on Wednesday to vote on Bangladesh’s request to move the hosting of the World Cup group matches out of India. According to various reports, out of 16 full members, only two voted in favor of Bangladesh, while 14 votes were cast against Bangladesh. Bangladesh will play its matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai.
If Bangladesh refuses, Scotland will play World Cup
It is said that Bangladesh Club has suggested changing the group with Ireland. Ireland are in Group B along with co-hosts Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman and Zimbabwe. However, according to reports, Sri Lanka is still against making any changes in its group. The ICC says that it is not possible to make changes to the schedule at this late stage and that making changes to matches in the absence of confirmed security risks would set a bad precedent for future global events.
