Apple fans may get a shock, big change in iPhone 18 series, but it will be heavy on the pocket, know what is going to happen
Apple is working on a new and more powerful chip for its upcoming iPhone models, but it may have an impact on users’ wallets. According to reports, the iPhone 18 series to be launched in the year 2026 may be more expensive than before. The biggest reason for this is Apple’s next mobile chip to be made on the new 2nm (nanometer) technology, the cost of which is said to be very high.
According to the information, Apple can launch four new iPhone models in September 2026. These may include iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, new version of iPhone Air and iPhone Fold 2. Apple’s new A20 or A20 Pro chip can be seen in all these phones, which will be manufactured on the 2nm process technology of TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
Big difference in chip price
The problem is that making chips with 2nm technology is very expensive. According to the report, TSMC has increased the price of 2nm silicon wafer. A 12-inch 2nm wafer, which has about 100 layers, is said to cost around $30,000 (about Rs 27 lakh). At the same time, the price of 3nm wafer used earlier was around $ 20,000 (about Rs 18 lakh).
This increased cost is directly impacting the price of Apple’s chips. It is being told that Apple may have to pay around $280 (about Rs 25,000) for an A20 or A20 Pro chip. This is about 87 percent more than the price of the current A19 Pro chip. If compared with the older A18 Pro, this cost increases manifold.
Now Apple has only two options. First, he should bear this increased cost himself and reduce his profits. Second, it should pass the burden of this additional expense on to the customers and increase the price of the iPhone 18 series. Most experts believe that Apple can choose another path.
Interestingly, the cost of Samsung’s 2nm technology is said to be lower than that of TSMC. Samsung reportedly charges around $20,000 for a 12-inch 2nm wafer. However, the quality and production capacity of TSMC’s chips is considered slightly better.
Overall, if these reports prove to be true, then the upcoming iPhones will be more powerful than before, but users may also have to spend more money to buy them.
