European T20 Premier League 2026: Steve Waugh, Glenn Maxwell, Jamie Dwyer, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills and Abhishek Bachchan became franchise owners in ETPL, the league has received the support of ICC and many boards.
european leagueSydney: The European T-20 Premier League (ETPL) on Wednesday announced the joining of hockey star Jamie Dwyer as franchise owner along with Australian cricket stars Steve Waugh and Glenn Maxwell. ETPL, a global multi-country franchise league started by Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan, is approved by the ICC. It has the support of Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland Cricket Board.
The league was started last year, but this tournament of six teams will be played this year, in which there will be 34 matches. ETPL has announced the owners of the first three teams Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Belfast. The Amsterdam team will be owned by a group led by great Australian cricketer Waugh and former Australian hockey captain, Olympic gold medalist Dwyer.
The owners of the Edinburgh team will be former New Zealand international cricketers Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills. The Belfast team will include Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund, former group CEO of insurance company NRMA. Waugh said in a statement:
I think carefully before choosing where to invest my time and energy in cricket. Franchise cricket is growing rapidly, but this opportunity is special because it has visionary thinking. In this way, this is also my return to cricket in a different role.
ETPL is a joint venture between Rules Global and Cricket Ireland. Saurav Banerjee, Priyanka Kaul and Dheeraj Malhotra are its partners along with Bachchan.
