how to fix puncture
To fix a punctured tire of a car, first ensure safety. Park the car at a safe place away from traffic, apply handbrake and turn on hazard lights. If it is night then also place a triangle board. To change the spare tyre, first remove the spare tire and tools from the boot of the car. Find the jack points from the car manual.
Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the tire is on the ground. Then lift the car with a jack, so that the punctured tire is above the ground. Remove the old tire by completely removing the nuts and fit the spare tyre. Put the nuts in a cross pattern by hand and then tighten them with a wrench. Lower the car and re-tighten the nuts. Test it by driving a short distance and later go to the service center and get the puncture repaired.
If the puncture is small, a temporary repair is possible with a tubeless tire repair kit. Locate the puncture by rotating the tyre, look for bubbles from the soapy water. Remove the nail or screw. Clean the hole with the rasp tool, dip the rubber strip in glue and insert it into the hole with the insert tool. Cut the strip, fill it with air and test. This is just a temporary solution, get professional patching done soon, otherwise the puncture will open again.
If the puncture is in the sidewall or is large, do not use a repair kit, change the tire or get towing. In tube tyres, the tube has to be changed. Apart from this, get tire rotation and balancing done every 6 months. Puncture proof sealant can be applied beforehand. Doing repairs yourself boosts confidence, but if you don’t have experience, seek professional help. Work carefully so that your journey remains safe.
