Not getting the range that the company said? Follow these 5 tips, EV will run more on single charge
Electric car drivers are always worried about range. Everyone complains that their EV does not give the claimed range as stated by the company. If you are also facing this problem, then you have reached the right address. We have brought important tips related to regular maintenance of electric vehicle.
These will not only ensure the longevity of the car, but will also improve the health, range and safety of the battery. Electric cars (EVs) have fewer parts than petrol/diesel cars, so maintenance is easier and cheaper. No engine oil changes, spark plugs or exhaust system stresses. Follow these steps to always keep your EV in top condition.
1. Battery Maintenance
Battery is the most expensive and important part of an electric car. Its life can be up to 8-15 years, but with proper care it can be extended further. Always keep the battery charge between 20% to 80%. Charging up to 100% daily or discharging up to 0% degrades the battery rapidly. Reduce the use of fast charging (DC fast charger). This is convenient, but puts more stress on the battery.
2. Checking the charging system and cable
Check charging cables, ports and plugs regularly. There should be no cracks, rust or loose connections. Get a home charger installed and ensure the safety of its wiring. Keep the car in a ventilated area during charging. Avoid overheating.
3. Tires & Wheels Maintenance
EV cars are heavy (because of the battery) and the instant torque causes tire wear quickly. Check tire pressure every month. Correct pressure increases range and prolongs tire life. Get tire rotation* done every 8,000-10,000 km. Prevents uneven wear. Keep getting wheel alignment and balancing done on time.
4. Brake System
Due to regenerative braking, brake pads last much longer (2-3 times longer than a petrol car). Still, get brake pads, discs and fluid checked in every service. Use regen braking more. It also charges the battery and reduces brake wear.
5. Coolant and Thermal Management System
Change the coolant that keeps the battery and motor cool on time (usually after 1-2 lakh km or 5-8 years). In case of leakage or low level, get it checked immediately. Also change the cabin air filter every 15,000-20,000 km or once a year. This will improve the performance of AC.
By adopting these tips, you can significantly increase the range, performance and life of your electric car. Overall, EV maintenance is easier than petrol cars. If you want to drive EV with less expense, less time and more savings, then focus most on battery and tyres. Refer to the car’s manual for service routines and measurements such as tire pressure.
