According to the Times of India report, Gadkari also said that in a meeting with tractor manufacturing companies and agricultural researchers, he has asked to speed up work on equipment running on clean energy. He suggested that electric tractors and engines be developed that can run on alternative fuels like ethanol, CNG or isobutanol. He believes that these innovations will help in making India self-reliant. Besides, this will reduce diesel import and pollution will also reduce. Gadkari also added that these steps will also help in increasing the income of people in rural areas.
