WhatsApp is preparing to take a big step regarding the safety of children and minor users on its platform. The messaging app is currently working on new features like parental control and secondary account, which aim to make WhatsApp more safe and controlled for children. Recently, new hints related to this have been found in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.3.6 of Android.

According to the report, WhatsApp is preparing a system in which parents will be able to create a secondary WhatsApp account for their children. This account will be linked to the main (parent) account and many features will be limited in it. The special thing is that conversations will be allowed only with the contacts saved in the children’s account, which will reduce the risk of contact with unknown people.

During setup, parents will have to link the child’s account to their own account by scanning the QR code. After this, a 6-digit primary PIN will be set, which will be required to approve any sensitive changes. With this, no one will be able to change the account settings without permission.

Children will not be able to hide chats
Under the new feature, the Updates tab (which includes channels and broadcast content) in children’s accounts is likely to be completely closed. Apart from this, features like Chat Lock will also not be available, so that conversations cannot be hidden. However, WhatsApp has clarified that End-to-End Encryption will remain the same as before, that is, even parents will not be able to see the content of the message or call.

Parents will only get information about certain activities, such as whether a new contact has been added or not. This account will remain linked to the parent account until the child reaches the minimum age limit of WhatsApp. After this the account can be converted into a normal WhatsApp profile.

Currently this feature is in the development stage and has not been made available even for beta users. But according to reports, WhatsApp may roll it out in the upcoming updates. This feature can prove to be a great relief for parents in terms of digital safety.
