From smiley to lighthouse, new emojis will be seen in iOS 27 update, know when and how will they be available?
Apple may add some new emojis for iPhone users with its upcoming iOS update. According to a recent report, Emojipedia has reported that Unicode Consortium has released a new list of draft emoji, which can become a part of the iOS 27 update coming next year.
The report states that the Unicode Emoji Standard and Research Working Group has proposed a total of 9 new emoji concepts and 10 new skin tone modifiers. The new emoji include a winking smiley face, thumbs up, monarch butterfly, pickle, lighthouse, meteor, pencil eraser, and a net with a handle.
Currently all these emojis are in the draft stage for Unicode Emoji 18.0. This means that they have not yet received final approval. If these emojis are passed, then tech companies like Apple and Google will prepare them in their own designs and then include them in the upcoming software updates.
You will get these features…
Interestingly, Apple has not yet fully implemented Unicode Emoji 17.0. This list includes emojis like Shovel, Fingerprint and Beet, which may possibly launch around March or April with the iOS 26.4 update.
If Apple follows this timeline, then the new emoji under Unicode Emoji 18.0 can be seen in the month of March with the iOS 27.4 update. Apple’s next major software update will be introduced at the WWDC 26 event, while its final version usually rolls out with the launch of a new iPhone in September.
Although there are already thousands of emojis in the keyboard, the new emojis coming every year do not seem that special. However, Apple has given users the ability to create their own emoji through the Genmoji feature. This feature is part of Apple Intelligence and is currently limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.
Not much information has been revealed about iOS 27 yet, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this update may focus on performance and quality improvements rather than new features.
