Success Story: Rajma-rice changed this couple’s life when MP fired them from job during lockdown

After spending days of struggle eating Gurudara food and sleeping in the car, Karan and Amrita of Delhi are now earning Rs 2200 to Rs 2400 a day from their rajma rice stall.

This couple is Karan Kumar and Amrita from Delhi, who, through their strong intentions, not only pulled themselves out of financial difficulties during the pandemic but also created a new source of income for themselves.

According to a report by Brut India, Karan Kumar tells that earlier he used to work as a driver for an MP. Meanwhile, he was fired from his job just a month after the nationwide lockdown. Karan says that while firing him from the job, the argument given was that the MPs could no longer bear his expenses. Not only this, the quarter in which Karan used to live had to be vacated due to pressure from the MP. After leaving that house, Karan and his wife had no other place to live, they even tried to ask their relatives for help in this regard but nothing could be done.

After this, Karan started looking for other jobs, but at that time it was almost impossible to get a job. The financial crisis became so bad that one had to go to the Gurudwara to eat food, while due to not having a home, one had to use one’s car to sleep at night. When the lockdown started getting eased, Karan borrowed some money from a friend and rented a room in Faridabad area. After this, Amrita suggested to Karan that why not make something similar to eat and sell it among the people, although during this time both of them were doubtful about how much people would trust to come out and eat.

Raised groceries by selling some household items
Kumar collected groceries by selling some household items and thus the couple started their new innings. With the hope of being able to support himself in these difficult times, he started selling rajma-rice as well as curry-rice and chickpea-rice near Talkatora Lane in Central Delhi. The first day was not at all good for Karan and Amrita, they earned only Rs 320, which was much less than their cost, but this did not shake their spirits. From the very next day the number of people at his stall started increasing. Today the situation is such that Karan and Amrita are earning Rs 2200 to Rs 2400 a day through this stall. Karan says that he is no longer looking for a job, but is concentrating completely on this stall.
