Babar Azam Big bash league Sydney Sixers: Babar Azam has so far scored only 202 runs in 11 BBL innings at an average of 22.44. Although he has scored two half-centuries during this period, questions have often been raised on his strike rate. Smith, on the other hand, has scored 210 runs in just four matches since his return to the tournament, which includes a century against Sydney Thunder.
Babar AzamNew Delhi: Babar Azam, who was playing in Australia’s Big B League, was released by his team Sydney Sixers a few days before the final. Babar Azam, who was infamous for his slow batting in T-20 cricket, was with his team as an opener. If Sydney Sixers defeat Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger to be held at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on 23 January, then they will face Perth Scorchers in the final on Sunday (25 January), this match is to be held in Perth, but now Babar will not be able to take part in both these matches.
Why was Babar Azam out of Big Bash?
It is being claimed in the report that Babar Azam has been recalled by the Pakistan Cricket Board in view of the preparations for the T-20 series against Australia, but the truth is something else. If sources are to be believed, Sydney Sixers had told Babar that the team management is not going to give him a chance in the playing eleven of Challenger in the final and before that. Anyway, Babar Azam’s performance in BBL 15 was quite disappointing. Babar was able to score only 202 runs in 11 matches. He definitely scored two half-centuries, but with a very poor strike rate of 103. He bats with ODI style in the T-20 format, while his other teammates like opening partner Steve Smith have scored runs at a strike rate of 172 and Daniel Hughes has scored at a strike rate of 129.
Babar Azam had become a burden on the team
Great Australian player Mark Waugh had also said that he has appealed to Sydney Sixers to put Pakistani batsman Babar Azam on the bench to win the Big Bash League (BBL). The 60-year-old Waugh said there was no doubt about Babar’s ability, but the former Pakistan skipper had not performed as expected at the top of the order, adding that the Sixers should find a new opening partner for star batsman Steve Smith, who has scored most of the runs since returning to the BBL after the Ashes.
Do or die match against Sydney to reach the final
On Tuesday, Perth Scorchers defeated Sixers by 48 runs in the qualifiers and confirmed their place in the BBL final. The Sixers now have another chance as they will face either Melbourne Stars or defending champions Hobart Hurricanes in the Challenger on Friday.
