Mileage of 226 km, confidence of Jupiter! Then why is TVS’s CNG scooter not being launched?
New Delhi. In January this year, TVS introduced the Jupiter CNG, which was a model that caught people’s attention. Many people believed that this model could be launched in the second half of 2025. But till now no significant progress has been made in this matter. So what is TVS thinking? Or is there some other reason behind this which TVS is afraid of? TVS Jupiter CNG can prove to be a great thing for the Indian market. But there may be some fear in the mind of the producer, which started in 2024. What is that reason? Let us understand.
CNG bike has been launched
In 2024, Bajaj surprised everyone by launching the world’s first CNG motorcycle – Freedom 125. Now, it has been on sale for a year. But its sales figures were nothing special. Many people attributed its failure to the low availability of CNG stations – but it is not so. Many CNG stations have also been established in rural India. So what was the real reason? Basically lack of information – many buyers are still not aware that such motorcycles are on sale. The main reason for this is that only one CNG product is on sale!
Why is CNG scooter not being launched?
CNG is a good option for cars – but motorcycle buyers are not yet ready to embrace the idea of CNG bikes. This could be the reason why TVS is not completely confident about Jupiter CNG yet. He feels that people will generally buy only 125cc or 110cc models and the CNG version may become another liability given the additional expense. This could be the reason why TVS is not making any announcement regarding Jupiter CNG yet.
Jupiter’s popularity
Many people may also think that the brand has recently launched a new bike. It is possible that Jupiter’s popularity may reduce RTX sales. But in reality it is not so. The customers buying RTX are completely different from the buyers of Jupiter CNG. Now, this concern may be over as another two-wheeler manufacturer has also introduced its CNG scooter. And that manufacturer is none other than Suzuki, which has launched Access CNG. Access CNG will compete with Jupiter CNG in India. Now that options are available, we don’t think TVS will face the same dilemma as Bajaj.
Should you wait?
It may be a bit confusing to wait for Jupiter CNG or buy the regular petrol model. The answer depends on how long you can wait – if you want a scooter soon, we would recommend buying the regular model. If you can wait, we think TVS may make an announcement regarding this model in the coming months.
Range claim of 226 km
More information about Jupiter CNG: For those who are hearing this for the first time, let us tell you that the CNG version of TVS Jupiter will be based on the 125cc model. Same engine, same design – but this time TVS will fall short of offering the best under-seat storage in the segment. The reason for this is the CNG tank, which will be installed near the seat.
The scooter will have a 1.4 kg CNG tank and a 2 liter petrol tank. With this setup, TVS is claiming a range of 226 kms. This is quite interesting, because the cost of running on CNG will be low and you will get good mileage. But, you will feel a reduction in power while running on CNG.
