If you are planning to buy an electric scooter then wait a while! Cheap Bajaj Chetak will be launched after 4 days
New Delhi. Bajaj Auto is going to launch the new Chetak on January 14, 2026 to further expand its electric scooter range. In the teaser released by the company, the changes in design are clearly visible, especially in the rear part of the scooter. The new Chetak will further strengthen Bajaj’s presence in the rapidly growing affordable electric scooter segment, which is expected to increase sales.
What did you see in the teaser image?
The teaser image shows a new horizontal LED tail lamp layout, which is completely different from the existing vertical split LED setup. In the new design, indicators are provided at both ends of the light bar and the Chetak badge is placed on top of it. The spy images seen earlier reveal that the overall silhouette of the scooter will remain the same as the current model.
What changed?
However, hardware will be used in this keeping the cost in mind. In the model seen during testing, the scooter appeared a bit compact and was given oval shaped LED headlamp, DRL ring, flat single-piece seat and simple instrument console. Bajaj may continue to use metal body panels, which makes it different from plastic bodied scooters in this segment.
These features are also present
Technically, the new model may feature a hub-mounted electric motor, whereas the current model has a mid-mounted setup. This change can reduce costs significantly. For suspension, telescopic forks can be provided at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, while for braking, disc brakes can be provided at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
12 inch alloy wheels
12 inch alloy wheels can be given in the scooter. To keep the price more affordable, Bajaj can provide LCD instrument cluster in it, whereas 5 inch TFT display is available in expensive variants. Features may be kept limited so that Bajaj can target first-time electric vehicle buyers.
tremendous popularity
In 2025, the company had sold around 2.70 lakh units of Chetak and it remained among the best-selling electric two-wheelers in India, even though there were some problems in the middle of production. Currently, 3 kWh and 3.5 kWh battery packs are available in the Chetak range, which come in the 3001 and 35 series. Their price ranges from Rs 99,500 to Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model may be positioned below the existing lineup and may be priced below Rs 1 lakh.
