New Delhi. Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to ban Bangladesh from international cricket matches. Calling it wasteful, the High Court has strongly reprimanded the petitioner.
A division bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia said that the court can neither direct any foreign country nor order the International Cricket Council (ICC), Sri Lanka Cricket Board or Bangladesh Cricket Board to stop the participation of any country.
Court will not decide on foreign policy

The bench asked the petitioner whether the order of Delhi High Court will be implemented in Bangladesh? ‘Will our writ go there? Should we go to Bangladesh and get the investigation done? The court said that the intervention of the judiciary in such cases is completely unconstitutional.

The Chief Justice warned law student Devyani Singh that filing such petitions could result in a fine. The court also expressed displeasure at the petitioner’s lawyer, when he cited the order of the Pakistani court in support of the argument. After the court’s strict comments, the petitioner’s lawyer sought permission to withdraw the petition. The court said that the petition is not maintainable, hence it is dismissed considering it withdrawn. In the end, the court advised the petitioner to do some constructive work, there is a lot to do.
What was the demand of the petition?
It was claimed in the petition that violence is taking place against the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Therefore, until it is stopped, Bangladesh should be excluded from international cricket competitions. Besides, there was a demand to ban Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka next month.
